May is National Bike Month - a coast to coast celebration of biking as transportation, as recreation, as essential to our well-being and everyday lives. Between Bike Durham’s signature Bike Month programming and events hosted by our community partners, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Sunday, May 5th - Join us for the kick-off of Bike Month - a day filled with biking fun and community connections. The ride is part of the Reimagining Durham Freeway outreach and will start in west Durham on Hillsborough Road ending in east Durham at South Driver Street (Specific locations will be provided following registration.) Get ready to pedal your way over and under the Durham Freeway, ending an opportunity to share your observations on the ride followed by a celebration and delicious BBQ (vegetarian options). Don't miss out on this opportunity to kick off Bike Month in style. Mark your calendars and get ready to ride!

Wednesday, May 15th - Join Bike Durham and friends for a slow, silent bike ride around downtown to honor and remember those killed or injured while biking. All are welcome and encouraged to ride with us to show solidarity for the community of bikers and walkers who have lost their lives and whose families are forever changed. This ride occurs internationally on the third Wednesday in May.

Thursday, May 18th - Ride to Work! Ride from the CCB Plaza to Boxyard RTP. The ride is about 8.5 miles mostly on greenway (one section is on-street unprotected bike lane). This is a beginner-friendly, no-drop ride. Thank you to our partners Acme Plumbing and The Research Triangle Park and Boxyard RTP. Coffee and snacks will be provided by RTP Foundation at Boxyard RTP.

Monday, May 20th - Join us for our monthly Community meeting and eBike Expo!

Wednesday, May 22nd - The BIKING WHILE BLACK: HOW SAFE ARE BLACK LIVES BICYCLING? documentary project gathers stories of community members, advocates, community-based organizations, and city agencies around the topic of Black Lives bicycling in Los Angeles. The film includes conversations about over policing, historic disinvestment in infrastructure, racism, racial profiling, while also celebrating Black joy through cycling.

More activities being announced over the coming weeks - stay tuned!
