PeopleForBikes was created by the bike industry to get more people riding more often and to build a powerful national voice for better bicycling in America. They focus their efforts into three categories:
- Government funding and policy at the federal, state and local levels
- Inspiring people to ride
The East Coast Greenway vision is for a long-distance, urban, shared-use trail system linking 25 major cities along the Eastern Seaboard between Calais, Maine, and Key West, Florida. It will serve non-motorized users of all abilities and ages. A 2,900-mile long spine route will be accompanied by 2,000 miles of complementary routes that link in key cities, towns, and areas of natural beauty. This green travel corridor will provide cyclists, runners, walkers, and other active-transportation users with a low-impact way to explore the Eastern Seaboard. The East Coast Greenway is routed through Durham via the American Tobacco Trail.
The NC Vision Zero initiative is a state-wide program which aims to eliminate roadway deaths and injuries using data-driven prevention strategies.
BikeWalk NC is a membership-based, statewide advocacy organization promoting non-motorized transportation choices for residents of and visitors to NC. Bike Durham is a member of BikeWalk NC.
