Durham Trails Tour

Wednesday May 23

City Hall Plaza

An opportunity to visit several current and future trails in Durham, and to meet members of Durham Open Space and Trails Commission (DOST) and City Council. Bus will shuttle people to various trailheads for short trail walks. Wear comfortable shoes.

Bike to Work Day Pit Stops

Bicyclist Appreciation Breakfast at Duke

In celebration of Bike to Work Day, Duke Parking and Transportation Services and Sustainable Duke will be hosting the annual on-campus Bicyclist Appreciation Breakfast. Duke students and employees are invited to enjoy free breakfast, coffee, and cycling swag. Durham Cycles will offer free bike inspections and minor on-the-spot adjustments.

Various schools in Durham will be holding walk & bike to school events throughout the month as part of the Safe Routes to School initiative. Students will be meeting near the school and walking and/or biking to school.

Volunteers are needed to help guide the students and hand out giveways. If you are interested in volunteering for one of the events, please contact info@bikedurham.org.

Bike Month at Duke Farmer’s Market

Visit the Unpark Yourself team at the Duke Farmer's Market, with easy bike access via the Medical Center Greenway.

Pick up bike lights and information on NC cycling laws, learn about the benefits of registering as a bike commuter, and pick up fruits, vegetables, and other wholesome grocery items.

Two-Speed Tour to Hillsborough

Join AC/BC Adventure Cycles of Bull City for easy ride to Hillsborough for lunch, looking around historical downtown. The distance will be 15-20 miles one way at a average speed of 10-12 miles an hour. As always, please be prepared to ride this distance and to follow traffic rules. Locks, helmets, water, snacks are all recommended!

Full Moon Fever Ride

Enjoy a night-time ride on the American Tobacco Trail.  All skill levels invited, ride at your own pace, no riders dropped.  Need lights and a helmet.  Meet at 7:30 in front of Mellow Mushroom for a 30-mile ride or at 8:30 at Bean Traders Coffee for a 15-mile ride.

Toast to Trails Cycle & Sip

The Doughman X

Join us for the 10th DOUGHMAN - the "self-propelled culinary tour of Durham." This quadathon features teams of 4 who will bike, run, "swim" and eat their way to fame and victory, benefitting the Durham Bike Co-op. The race will be on 9th Street in Durham. Mural Bike Tour

Approximately 13 murals will be featured, including Untitled (Manbites Dog Theater), Angel of Spring, Wall of Hope, Untitled (The Cookery), Two-Way Bridges, Black Wall Street, Durham Civil Rights, Pauli Murray, and Time Bridge.

Tours are designed for anyone with a bicycle and comfortable riding on city streets. Experienced cyclists will guide each tour, which lasts about 90 minutes (7 miles). BYOB — bring your own bike. Helmets required. Tours depart at 10 AM from the Durham Central Park pavilion. Please check in 15 minutes early.

Pony Ride

The Pony ride is a social, leisure ride that begins at The Bull in Downtown Durham and after winding around downtown will end at the Ponysaurus Brewing Co. tap room and beer garden for pints, dumplings from Chirba Chirba and a chance to win prizes and hang with good folks. Pony ride happens on the second Tuesday of each month.

Bike Helmet Fitting

Celebrate Bike Month with a new helmet! There will be helmet fittings and giveaways as well as safety courses. Children's helmets (18 years of age and younger) are free; adult helmets are $10.  All persons receiving a helmet must be present to be fitted properly.

Please bring your bicycle to these events. Kids who need helmets will be fitted and supplied with a new, high quality cycling helmet. All riders must wear helmets, and children will be instructed in safe riding techniques through fun riding courses.

Our ride is an inclusive event intended to invite and encourage more women, trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people to participate in the local cycling community. Ride of Silence

Join us for a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. The Ride of Silence is a global event to raise awareness of cyclists' rights to use the roads. The event starts with a short memorial service then a slow (10-12 mph) ride in silence. There are no registration fees and all are welcome regardless of background or experience--all are united in our right to safety on our roads. We will be meeting in downtown Durham at the Bull statue and the 4 mile route will run through town to raise public awareness of cyclist fatalities.

If you know anyone who has been killed or seriously injured while cycling, please bring photos/memorabilia for our memorial table.
